April 2, 2025, in a powerful show of unity and purpose, New England Donor Services (NEDS) President and CEO Alex Glazier joined Maine Governor Janet Mills, Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, the Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Representative Allison Hepler, the Maine Medical Center Transplant Program, and many others to celebrate National Donate Life Month.

Gathered in Maine’s capital, this inspiring event spotlighted the lifesaving and life-healing impact of organ and tissue donation. Governor Mills formally recognized April as Donate Life Month with an official state proclamation—honoring the selfless gifts of life and celebrating the work of organizations and individuals dedicated to saving lives.
What made this moment truly meaningful were the voices of those who have lived the transplant journey firsthand. Heartfelt thanks to NEDS volunteers Don Mitchell (HeartBrothers Board Member and heart transplant survivor), Charlene Slaver Roosevelt, Rick Griffin, Joe Rosario, Dr. Ron Springel, Mark Calkin, Kathie Neyman, and Greg Gelinas for courageously sharing their stories of loss, love, and renewed life. Your words are a beacon of hope for so many.

At the HeartBrothers Foundation, we know how powerful these stories can be. They remind us that behind every donor and every recipient is a family, a community, and a future that’s forever changed.
This Donate Life Month, we invite you to be part of that change. Visit DonateLife.net to register as an organ donor.
Together, we can shine a light on the gift of life.
