Honoring Francesco “Skip” Lagrotteria Through Golf and Giving

Each year, a dedicated group of friends gathers for an annual golf tournament—a tradition built on camaraderie, competition, and community. This year, that tournament took on a special meaning as it was dedicated in memory of Francesco “Skip” Lagrotteria, a beloved father and friend who recently passed after a long and courageous battle with heart issues.

Throughout Skip’s journey, the HeartBrothers Foundation stood alongside him and his family, offering support and strength during difficult times. To honor his legacy and the impact our mission had on his life, tournament organizers Wilson Rogers and Sam Martin led a heartfelt effort to turn this year’s event into more than just a game of golf.

The 6th Annual Waist Management Open was an incredible day. In its first year partnering with the HeartBrothers Foundation, $8,400 was raised in honor of Skip—thanks to friends, family, and 60 players all looking to make a difference. Skip was an incredible man who loved spending time with family, friends, and, of course, his pups. He was always fond of this tournament, as his son Joey is a founding member. That connection made the partnership with HeartBrothers, who played such a vital role in the Lagrotteria family’s lives, a natural fit.

Fundraising efforts included merchandise sales, raffles, and contests, with every dollar going directly to the HeartBrothers Foundation. The goal was twofold: to celebrate Skip’s life and to ensure that other families facing the challenges of heart failure receive the same encouragement and resources.

Planning for the 7th Annual Waist Management Open is already underway—and with the success and support shown this year, the sky is the limit. Thank you to everyone who made this year’s tournament possible. Be on the lookout for details around next year’s event as we continue to honor Skip’s legacy and support heart failure patients and families.

What a touching tribute to Francesco “Skip” Lagrotteria and a beautiful way to celebrate his life through something he loved. It’s amazing to see communities come together for such meaningful causes. Reading about the dedication and heart behind this reminded me of how passion and legacy also shine through in things like a mens leather jackets—timeless, strong, and full of character. Truly inspiring event!

"Pat and Bob were living proof we would survive...that this was all part of our journey. After meeting the HeartBrothers, I remember Nick saying that when all this was over he would be a HeartBrother too. It made me smile because it showed me Nick had not given up hope despite how sick he was...he was thinking about our future."
